Hi, The first thing is to be sure that the pump is running and the filter is clean. You need to test your water and make the needed adjustments. If there is no Chlorine in the pool then you should put in around 3 gallons of liquid chlorine and let the pump run all night. Be sure that there is a tablet in the feeder. The next day you should test the water again. Make any needed adjustments. Brush the entire pool, clean the filter and if needed put in another two gallons of liquid chlorine. If you do this routine every day you should start to see the pool looking better. Just be sure to test the water, brush the pool and clean the filter everyday. As soon as it starts to clear up you can start running the pool about 12 hours a day. You might want to get a new filter cartridge after the pool is back to normal. Then you can go back to once a week maintenance that will keep your pool very inviting. If you do this process and there is still a problem then you might want to test for phosphates. If the level is too high you can have a real problem getting rid of algae.

Hi, We use a product that is called Multi-Stain Remover in combination with another product called Metal-Gone. Both are manufactured by Lo-Chlor and you should be able to find them in your local pool store. What you need to do is shut the pump off and do not let it run for 24 hours. Broadcast the Stain Remover over the bad areas and let it sit on the surface. I comes in 2# containers and I would put it all in and then put in the entire bottle of the Metal-Gone, poured in around the entire pool. The water might get real cloudy but this normal. Start the pool the next day and be sure to test your chlorine level because this treatment will destroy chlorine in the water. The third day you should clean the filter and check the surface, if it stills has some of the iron spots then put in another 2#s of the Muti-Stain Remover. I wouldn't put in any more treatment for a while and let what you have put in do it's work. Be sure to keep an eye on your chemistry and keep your filter clean but you should start to see a stark improvement of the way that your pool looks. After you do this write me back and let me know if this worked.

I tried rubbing a 3in chlorine tablet, it did some good...water is to dang cold to get in, should I try the metal out and stain remover

I also heard get some wet/dry sand paper and try this. will the stains get worse if i wait till summer, or are they as bad as they can get now, its been a couple hours since my jackass mistake.

Hey San Diego Plumber. I posted your comment and your site link is there now. I just wish that more people with pool related issues would send me questions. I love helping people with their pools. It seems like most of the response that I get is spam crap.
